DESCRIPTION:A program honoring America’s 250th anniversary including spirituals arranged for baritone and string quartet\, with guest baritone Robert Sims. \nCiompi and Baritone Robert Sims join The Rocky River Chamber Music Society in its 58th season\, presenting professional chamber music concerts free and open to the public\, serving the Northeast Ohio community. The evening moves from Samuel Barber’s powerful String Quartet\, Op. 11 to Ben Johnston’s inventive quartet built around the hymn Amazing Grace. Music by Florence Price and Charles Ives reflects the evolving voice of American composition. SUMMARY:Appalachian Spring - Ciompi Quartet and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Few works capture the spirit of American music like Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Ciompi Quartet presents the suite in its original chamber scoring for 13 instruments\, revealing the clarity and intimacy of Copland’s music. The program also includes Stephen Jaffe’s Inscriptions for flute\, bassoon\, and strings\, alongside Osvaldo Golijov’s Last Round\, a powerful string work inspired by the passion and pulse of Argentine tango. \nFor this special program\, the Ciompi Quartet joins forces with guest musicians from the Durham Fellows Quartet and faculty from the University of South Carolina School of Music.
