    William Grant Still: Lyric Quartette (1960) Elizabeth Maconchy: String Quartet #4 (1942) The Ciompi inaugurates two new series of free one-hour concerts featuring major works for string quartet in informal settings. Student ensembles from the Duke Chamber Music Program will be featured on these programs.

  • Invention and Discovery

    The first concert of the Ciompi Presents 2022 Summer Chamber Music Series is presented by Caroline Stinson, cellist, performing with the Lydian String Quartet. The program, titled Invention and Discovery, includes Andrew Waggoner’s fifth quartet, Invention and Sinfonia by John Harbison, a quintet based on a theme by Shakespeare, and the great Schubert Cello Quintet – three works that open vast, immersive vistas of sound. Enhanced Musical Reality, no goggles needed.

  • Quartets of Brahms and Lindroth

    The second concert of the Ciompi Presents 2022 Summer Chamber Music Series will feature Jonathan Bagg, violist with the Ciompi String Quartet, performing with Laura Gilbert (flute), Nicholas DiEugenio (violin), Raman Ramakrishnan (cello) and Mimi Solomon (piano). Program: Brahms’ Piano Quartet Op. 60, a new flute quartet by Duke faculty composer Scott Lindroth, and works by David Kirkland Garner and Tatiana Nikolaeva.
