This short program features the second (2021-22) round of commissions in the Ciompi Quartet’s “Portfolio Project”. The Quartet performs Works by Duke Graduate Composers Huijuan Ling, Brooks Frederickson, and Dayton Kinney, as well as “Soleil Noir”, the 2020 work by Duke Faculty Composer John Supko.

William Grant Still: Lyric Quartette (1960) Elizabeth Maconchy: String Quartet #4 (1942) The Ciompi inaugurates two new series of free one-hour concerts featuring major works for string quartet in informal settings. Student ensembles from the Duke Chamber Music Program will be featured on these programs.
