Johannes Brahms’ Quintet for clarinet and strings, a timeless masterwork, will bring back the Rane Moore, who shone in last year’s Dreams and Prayers concert. The concert begins with a trio by Haydn, architect of high classicism, that features flutist Laura Gilbert. Sofia Gubaidulina’s blazing originality is already evident in her piano quintet, which also reveals her origins as a soviet composer bursting with talent and energy.
Cultural Crossroads: Dvořák in America is a live concert experience that explores the Black and Indigenous influences on Dvořák during his time in America. The program weaves original Native American melodies and moving African American Spirituals along with Dvořák’s most beloved chamber music. Short videos and imagery add to this powerful multimedia experience.
