Summer Chamber Music Series 2023

Duke Gardens remains an ideal setting for a music series where artistry and nature are embraced with equal measure to offer audiences a unique experience. Again, members of the Ciompi Quartet will present three programs where each musician will share their artistic excellence through performance….it is a chance for the audience to engage with the artists, the composers and with chamber music at its finest. Presented by Jonathan Bagg performing with Benjamin Fingland (clarinet), Maiani da Silva (violin), Emely Phelps (piano) and Laura Gilbert (flute). The title for his presentation is drawn from a Bartók work that was written for Benny Goodman in 1938. The program features music of great contrasts, with unusual instrumentation.

Presented by Caroline Stinson performing with the Lydian String Quartet, Rachel Calin (bass) and Adriana Linares (viola).
Program: Boccherini Cello Quintet Night Music of the Streets of Madrid; John Harbison Presences for solo cello, string quartet, and bass, commissioned to honor the young cellist, David Anderson (1978-1998); Brahms Sextet for Strings in G Major OP 36, the early joyful flowering of Brahms’ musical voice.

Subscriptions are $60. Purchase subscription and single tickets beginning June 6. Single tickets are $25 General. Public; $20 Non-Duke Students/Duke Employees; $10 Youth/Duke students.
