The Ciompi Quartet has been a vital presence in new music since its founding nearly 60 years ago. A close and fruitful relationship with Duke’s composition faculty, and with many young composers in the Ph.D. program, has produced dozens of new works over the years. This concert brings together four new pieces from the past 10 years, highlighting the unique voices of Stephen Jaffe, Anthony Kelley, Scott Lindroth, and John Supko, all faculty at Duke. It is a thrilling and powerful program that reveals the deep talent and imagination of Duke’s composition program, mentors of the next generation!
This performance also acts as the release party for Ciompi’s latest album: A Duke Moment. This builds on their desire to highlight the contribution of the Duke’s compositional voices, sharing them with the world outside of Duke.
